Interested in Becoming a Music Therapist?

Do you love playing an instrument or singing but want to do more than perform?  Do you feel called to pursue music but don’t want to be a teacher?  Are you a natural caregiver and love to help others?  Then you might be interested in becoming a music therapist! What to expect:

  • All states require a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy and some require an additional Master’s Degree.  Click here to find AMTA approved schools offering music therapy programs.
  • Following the completion of your education requirements, a 6-9 month internship must be completed.  Click here to locate AMTA approved internship sites.
  • After your educational and training requirements are complete, it is time to take your board certification exam.  For more information on this exam, click here.
  • If you live in New York, Nevada, North Dakota or Wisconsin, click here for state licensure information.  Licensure is required to practice in those states.
